Artist Statement

As a nonbinary person, I realize that due to my gendered status, I experience the world of sensuality, sexuality and the roles it plays in life and death in a very unique way. I do not have a brand or focus, because I am neurodivergent, and the narrow minded obsession with branding my artwork not only discriminates but also creates an expectation of a “product”. I am not a product, I am not a service or a thing to be bought and traded. I am a person, with an obsession and a passion for the beauty in temporary and fragile aspects of life. I cannot be branded or focused because the idea of a stable, static personality is a farce. Not one person is the same person in every instance of their life. My art reflects this, not just in themes but execution and materials used. I am over and done with the world in not making a space for someone with my identity, or eccentricities and I am tired of the art world that claims inclusivity and yet still tries to fit artists inside neat and tidy boxes while excluding the artists that do not fit. Instead I will make a space for myself and others like me.

Artist Biography

Eve Pitts is a nonbinary artist located in Pinellas Park, Florida. They work primarily in acrylic paintings but also dabble in three dimensional embroidery, paint markers, and sculpture in order to comment on themes of categorizations created by society and the artworld. Like many artists, they began their art career at a young age, much to the disappointment of their parents. They continued to disappoint their parents by going to St Petersburg College, and the University of South Florida for non other than art and art history with a minor in anthropology. As they graduated and attempted to break into the art world with their work, they  took some business classes through SPC that were not at all geared towards artists. There They attempted to learn how to tackle social media, create a brand for themselves and a specialized product for a target audience. They failed because this model does not make room for neurodivergent peoples, and they realized this model is a capitalistic hell that is not designed for artists. So their anger, ire and energy turned towards creating work that inspires them, as well as rails against the current system of fast-art consumption and exclusionary practices within the art world.

Eve does this by gathering artists that have not yet broken into the art world and organizing socially distanced events of working on their art, networking, and goal setting while also sharing what knowledge they do have to foster a community that works together and advocates for each other.
